ROBOTICS

Robotics play a significant role in the future of industrial maintenance. 3D-Industrial support many projects with regards to the development of tools and science that contributes towards a practical solution of current issues.

One of our projects is called WINSPECTOR, a consortium composed of five members, TWI, WRS, Innora, Gamesa and London South Bank University. This consortium has come together to develop a solution for wind turbine blades inspections.

The solutions consist of a self-moving automated robotic deployment platform that uses shearography to determine critical flaws or discontinuities found in composite WTBs, namely cracks, voids, disbonds, delamination, and or impact damage.

WINSPECTOR FACTS

  • Capable of detecting the full range of critical flaws
  • Acquires a sequence of speckle images/videos
  • Generates and interprets fringe patterns
  • Identifies potential defects
  • Captures digital images
  • Inspection speed 1m2 minute
  • Reports critical values instantly
  • Builds data for trend line analysis

SHEAROGRAPHY

Laser Shearography is an optical measurement technique for Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) and Quality Control applications, commonly used on composites and metallic materials. The method is used for defect detection in an expedited manner.

The Laser Shearography principle consists of interferometric comparison of a test object in two states, a neutral and a loaded one. Advanced software algorithms perform live image processing to identify variations in out-of-plane deformations between both states, which in turn reveals surface or sub-surface discontinuities or anomalies by highlighting local weaknesses under certain load conditions.

Laser Shearography allows us to measure and qualify both large and small complex geometries fast and efficiently, yielding real-time results.

INSPECTION DRONES

Another project 3D-Industrial is working on is the development and deployment of Industrial 3D inspection drones for visual, thermographic, and ultrasonic measurements.

Drone inspections are a pivotal part of the asset integrity cycle. Deployment reduces work at height requirements and improves lead and execution times of maintenance in storage tanks, boilers, spheres, and stacks, ultimately reducing costs and improving availability.

Propriety software and technology makes the difference between a regular drone operator, and that of knowledge-based inspection provider that understands, interprets and reports according to the relevant (class) certifications.

Using a hybrid approach of drone capability with advanced rope access and/or NDT skills also allows for a tune key inspection and repair approach. Saving you valuable time and money.
